Kanha National Park
An Introduction
Spread in the lush green area of 940 sq km, the Kanha National Park is situated in Madhya Pradesh and it is a great fact to know that this was the place which inspired Rudyard Kipling to write his most admired classic the Jungle book. It is famous for its wildlife diversity and preserved flora. Two valleys that form the Kanha National Park are the Banjar valley and other is the Halon valley which forms the western and eastern sides of the Jungle respectively.
History of Kanha National Park
The park was declared as a national park in the year 1955 by a special law and since then has been a home to a huge biodiversity. It was declared as Kanha Tiger Reserve in the year 1973 and since then Kanha National park has been known to save many endangered species including the Royal Bengal Tiger.
Flora and Fauna in Kanha National Park
The forest inside the park consists of sal, Indian Ghost trees and bamboo trees. The forest also has vast open grasslands which were cleared after abandoning villages for making way for the animals. One can easily spot animals like swamp dear, chital, blackbuck and sambhar in the open grassy meadows of the forest. The park is home to a good population of the Indian Tigers and it is easy to spot the beast roaming around freely in its natural habitat and in Kanha it is a common sight which is thrilling as well as breath taking.
The picturesque view of the Kanha National Park shows the Surpan River, steep rocky passages, and soothing views of the valley by the side. This is a true heaven for the lovers of wildlife. The major attractions in the Kanha National Park are the presence of animals like Bison, barking deer, jungle cat, mongoose, tigers, leopards, black deer, nilgai, python, fox, sloth bear, mouse deer and chousingha, Barasingha, etc. The population of Brasingha is ever growing in the Jungles of the National Park due to which the other wild animals are surviving without food shortage. This National Park is home to many species of birds like spotted parakeets, green pigeons, cuckoos, rollers, bee-eater bird, warbles, kingfishers, fly catchers, ringed doves, finches, wood peckers, rock pigeons, papihas and more.
Climate in Kanha National Park
The climate of Kanha is extreme and tropical. It receives a good rainfall with high humidity and a hot summer. The best time to visit is from mid October to April month.
