Jodhpur is also known as the “Sun City” is one of the most popular tourist destinations among the travellers. The city is known as “Sun City” due to its bright and sunny weather all year. It is also known as “Blue City” because many houses of the old city are decorated with the blue colours. The city is known for its forts, palaces and temples. It is also known for the rare breed of horses called Malani which can be found only here. Some of the places to visit in Jodhpur are:

Mehrangarh Fort:

It is one of the largest forts in India built by Rao Jodha situated 125m above the city and is enclosed by thick walls. It gives a glimpse of the rich culture and deep history of Jodhpur. There are many palaces within the premises of fortress which have their distinct identities with intricate Rajasthani carvings and design. 

Umaid Bhawan Palace:

It is one of the world’s largest private residences and part of palaces comprising of 347 rooms, courtyards, banquet hall and a museum. It reflects the heritage of Rajasthan and is a magnificent piece of heritage. It is an architectural marvel, truly and network and is almost 75 years old. 

Mandore Gardens:

Mandore gardens houses the “Hall of Heroes” on a single rock which commemorates the folk heroes and popular Rajputs of the region. The cenotaphs, temple to 33 crore Gods and the old Mandore Palace are the reflection of the rich architectural heritage of the region. The visitors can capture the spectacular vista of the surroundings.

Kailana Lake

It is an artificial lake constructed by Pratap Singh in year 1872. In ancient times this region had palaces and gardens. It is the best place to witness the mesmerising sunset view and a perfect place to spend some time with your near and dear ones. Visitors can enjoy the boat cruise, capture breath-taking photographs and the place is a paradise for bird watchers.

Clock Tower

It is a popular landmark in the old city and is a great place to wander around at leisure. The tower offers spectacular views of the surroundings. The vibrant Sardar Market is adjacent to the tower which has many shops from spices to sweets, textiles, silver and handicraft.

Masuria Hills Garden:

Located in the Jodhpur city it offers an astonishing panoramic views of the surroundings. Views of the blue houses and panorama views of the city is the most striking feature of the garden. The garden houses the temple of Baba Ramdev , a local deity and is quite popular among devotees. You can also spot statue of Veer Durgadas Rathore, a famous folk hero of Marwar. 

Jodhpur Polo and Equestrian Institute

One can witness the game of polo in December and get charmed by the sport of the royals. It is a unique and exciting experience to watch the game. The game is played by sitting on the horses and passing around the ball with the stick to make it reach to the goal.

Chamunda Devi Mandir:

Located at the end of Mehrangarh For the temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga. The idol was brought by Rao Jodha as it was his favourite Goddess and it was earlier based in Mandore. The Goddess is worshipped by common people of Jodhpur and the current time royal families consider Devi Chamunda as adopted goddess of their families. People gather in large mass of devotees on the occasion of Dussehra.
